Friends of Crystal Lake Chronology

Spring at Crystal LakeThe Friends of Crystal Lake is an organization of Newton citizens which first became informally active in the restoration of Levingston Cove.  This began around the mid 90’s and ended with the refurbishing of the Cove in 2000.  Louise Levingston, for whom the Cove is named, was one of the original members.  More recently the Friends have become more formally organized and have been involved in small projects.  A chronology of some of our activities to date is listed below:

Spring and Summer 2009

  • April 18—Paul’s Park Clean-up
  • May 17—Initial Planning Meeting
  • June 4—Alderman Sub-Committee Meeting (Link)
  • June 7—Meeting with Newton Police regarding  enforcement of regulations
  • June 28—Pruning in Levingston Cove
  • June, 30—Website goes live
  • July 1—Weeding in Levingston Cove
  • July 20—Filing for non profit status

2010

  • Research on Lake rules and regulations in collaboration with Newton Parks and Recreation leading to signage.

2011

  • March 12—Annual Meeting and presentation of concept design for Levingston Cove
  • April 27—Cronin Cove subcommittee meeting and presentation of rough draft concept plan for Cronin Cove restoration
  • May 14—Board meeting and election of officers and directors
  • May 15—NewtonServes clean-up of Levingston Cove
